2023 Annual OMC Conference at the Deerhust Resort, Huntsville ON

The OMC conference, held from July 11-14, was a highly anticipated event for school board facility officials. The theme of this year’s conference was Facing the Future Together, to navigate new waters to re-emerge stronger and more collaboratively.

The conference commenced on July 11 with an opening ceremony, where distinguished keynote speaker Elia Saikaly, Social Entrepreneur, Award Winning Film Maker and Global Adventurer emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in the field of education. School board facilities’ officials were encouraged to think outside the box and explore new approaches to maintaining the quality of school buildings.

A series of workshops, panel discussions, and presentations were conducted, covering a wide range of topics including ventilation, sustainability and reporting, how to get results with co-op students, the power of collaboration, property claims and risk management and employee retention.

Ventilation Challenges and Strategies for Better Outcomes panel hosted by Tony Cupido and panelists from three school boards: Carole Horton, DSBN1, Bill Murray, Renfrew County DSB and Shahid Naeem, Peel DSB.

The workshops were designed to be interactive and engaging, allowing participants to actively participate and share their experiences. Experts in the field facilitated these sessions, providing valuable insights and practical strategies to overcome common challenges faced by school boards.

One of the highlights of the conference was the showcase of innovative technologies in education.
